A Journey in Sustainable Farming

Current Location:
Hawai'i, The Big Island

Elroy on our hike this morning holding young fern shoots. We cleaned the fuzz off 3 that we found and we’ll be boiling, peeling and eating them tonight.

After our hike, we headed into Waimea town area and foraged even more food! We got avacado, nasturtium flowers, and a type of green squash I can’t remember the name of and the young shoots from the squash plant. I’ll be able to grow the squash here on the farm along with the ginger in the previous post.

As a side note, I want to give a status update about my solar power and computer. As some of you know, I shipped a solar panel to myself which took a month to get out here on a barge. I’ll be getting the battery sometime next week and will have a consistant energy source set up! Woohoo. It’s an 88 amp hour battery too :)
Also, in late March the backlight to my computer went out and the repair shop estimated a very expensive cost to fix it. I’ve already purchased an external monitor and tested it so I’ll be all set once my battery comes in. I’ll also be able to access my camera photos at that point too! Yay!

Happy easter everyone! Aloha!

Welcome to my blog! I have many plans for this site. Previously, this site was used to give information to people in Walnut Creek, CA who were interested in my backyard farming services. Now that I'm out travelling I've converted it to a blog about my journeys.

What inspires my interest in sustainable farming? I'm a food lover who's quite fascinated by nature! It's no wonder that I enjoy growing plants - especially the edible varieties! This blog is about my adventure of traveling and growing food as I go.
