A Journey in Sustainable Farming

Current Location:
Hawai'i, The Big Island

Got a tent site built today for my friend who is coming to visit. It was hard to get a good picture because it’s surrounded by guinea grass which will hopefully provide some privacy and shade.

I used a shovel, pick mattock, rake and sickle (plus gloves) to make it. I also cut out the biggest clump of guinea I’ve done so far; about 3’ by 4’! The site is about 8’ by 8’.

Surprisingly, it only took about 2 hours (and a lot of sweat) to cut the guinea, dig the roots out, level the slope and mulch a path to get in. Not to bad, eh?

Mauka seems to wander into my photos a lot… I think she knows… ;)

Welcome to my blog! I have many plans for this site. Previously, this site was used to give information to people in Walnut Creek, CA who were interested in my backyard farming services. Now that I'm out travelling I've converted it to a blog about my journeys.

What inspires my interest in sustainable farming? I'm a food lover who's quite fascinated by nature! It's no wonder that I enjoy growing plants - especially the edible varieties! This blog is about my adventure of traveling and growing food as I go.
